The 2nd Fun Triathlon Camp in Kashiwazaki will be held at Ishiji Beach on the Japan Sea coast of Niigata Prefecture on the weekend of May 23-24, 2026. It is being organised by Nagoaka Triathlon Club, Kameda Triathlon Club, Sanjo Triathlon Club, Andy / Sunset Street, and Triathlon in Tokyo. Local triathletes and cyclists have put together some fantastic courses which offer triathletes the chance to swim in the Japan Sea, cycle through hills and rice fields, and run along the coast. Reasonably-priced accommodation will be available in a traditional inn right on the beach, and on Saturday evening there will be a barbecue.
Sakae Chaya Inn & Beach House
Our base for the weekend will be Sakae Chaya, a large guesthouse which can accommodate all participants. The charges (excluding tax) are as follows:
Accommodation in shared tatami room ¥6,500 per person per night
Barbecue ¥5,000 (vegetarian options available)
Breakfast ¥1,500
All inclusive package (Saturday night accommodation, BBQ, Sunday breakfast + onsen) ¥11,000
Saturday, May 23
Beach clean, training sessions, and barbecue party
This year, we will start the weekend with a voluntary beach clean. There will then be the choice of joining some triathlon skills lessons or simply doing swim, bike, or run training in this beautiful part of Japan. After training, there will be the opportunity to cycle to a local onsen, before unwinding at the barbecue party.

Swim
The swim course runs parallel to the beach to a line of tetrapod breakwaters. It is 500 metres one way, which means one full lap is 1000 metres. Participants can choose to swim one or two laps.
Safety: swimmers are required to use a swim buoy or a restube (self-inflating buoyancy device).
Bike
The bike course is a rectangular loop which includes a flat coastal road, short climbs into the hills, and narrow farm roads through rice paddies. One lap is 15.5 km, and participants can choose to do one, two, or three laps. More course information [here].
Safety: As the ride is on open public roads, participants must agree to follow traffic regulations, which means stopping at red lights and stop lines, and slowing down where necessary for the safety of other road users. This is a fun ride, not a race!
Bikes: Please bring a road bike rather than a time trial bike. This will be safer for you, other participants, and other road users.
Run
The run course follows the flat coastal road for just under 4 km, through a curving tunnel, and then climbs 70 metres to the turnaround at Shiiyakannondo Temple at 5.2 km. From here runners return the same way to the start. The total distance is 10.4 km out and back. Participants can choose to avoid the steep climb to the temple by simply turning back at the tunnel. Note: there are no aid stations, so bring a running flask; there is a water tap on the climb up to the temple.
